Nursery Topic Blurb

What are the signs of Autumn?

Our topic this half term is “Autumn leaves are falling” with a strong focus on the three prime areas of the EYFS curriculum.

Communication and Language

This half term, children will build their listening and speaking skills by talking about the changes they notice in the world around them, such as the colour of leaves, the weather, and seasonal celebrations. Through stories, songs, and circle-time discussions, they will be encouraged to share their ideas, ask questions, and expand their vocabulary with new autumn-related words.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

As the children explore the season of autumn together, they will be supported to work in groups, share resources, and take turns during play and learning activities. They will be encouraged to notice and respect each other’s ideas when discussing what they see in nature, building their confidence and sense of belonging within the class community.

Physical Development

Autumn provides lots of opportunities for children to develop their physical skills both indoors and outdoors. They will enjoy activities such as collecting and sorting leaves, conkers, and pinecones, which help strengthen their fine motor skills, as well as outdoor games like running, jumping, and balancing in the crisp autumn air, supporting their gross motor development
