Autumn 1

Autumn leaves are falling

During the first half term of the year in Nursery we will be exploring and talking about the changes that are occurring as the season starts to change and we move into Autumn. Children will gain first hand experiences as they explore their senses and begin to notice more detailed features of the natural environment. We will be developing our language skills as we explore new vocabulary to describe what we see and feel when exploring the outdoors and enjoy investigating the outdoors during all weathers. We will learn how the four seasons differ and changes that occur and talk about animals that live in our gardens and how we can help to care for them as the weather starts to turn colder and there is less food for animals to eat.

Autumn 1

The Rainbow Snail by Karin Åkesson

Blue like the raindrops. Green like the soft grass. Yellow like the warm sun. This is the story of how the rainbow snail came to be. It takes sun and rain to make a rainbow, and what better combination of colors could there be?

Puddling! by Emma Perry

Pull on your wellies and button up your coats for this playful, interactive story all about children delighting in the joy of splish-splash-sploshing in muddy puddles with their friends, and cherishing snuggles on the sofa afterwards.

Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert

Fall has come, the wind is gusting, and Leaf Man is on the move. Is he drifting east, over the marsh and ducks and geese? Or is he heading west, above the orchards, prairie meadows, and spotted cows?

No one's quite sure, but this much is certain: A Leaf Man's got to go where the wind blows.

Tidy by Emily Gravett

Pete the badger likes everything to be neat and tidy at all times, but what starts as the collecting of one fallen leaf escalates quickly and ends with the complete destruction of the forest! Will Pete realise the error of his ways and set things right?

Spike's Best Nest by Tony Maddox

Lovable Spike the Sparrow wakes up one morning in a grumpy mood, and decides that what he really needs is a new and better nest.
